The Corran Singers Patrons Concert took place at the congregational chapel in Laugharne last Friday evening. The roof was almost raised by the tumultuous applause when Welsh soprano Gwawr Edwards and her father Welsh tenor Dafydd Edwards completed their performance. The audience was held spellbound by Gwawr’s sparkling stage presence and remarkable voice. Taking time out from the Glyndebourne Theatre in Brighton Gwawr travelled to Laugharne following an invite by the Corran Singers. Gwawr said, “It is an absolute pleasure to perform in a Welsh chapel because this is where I started my career. It is an added honour to perform on stage with my father Dafydd and to be accompanied on piano by my sister Menna. We have had a tremendous welcome here in Laugharne”. The Corran Singers were also on great form performing items from their new repertoire. The President for the evening Mr. Dorian Phillips thanked the MC Mr. Rob Ryder. President of the choir Mr. Conway Davies thanked the choir, accompanist Mrs. Ann Harry and musical director Mrs. Heather Jenkins for organising such a fantastic event. The Corran Singers will be in concert again on December 10th.ST CLEARS NEWS ARCHIVES 2010
